About this experience

Summer Canning Series:

Tuttle's offers a great selection of summer Indiana produce, which is great for canning or freezing!  Come join us to learn everything you need to know to successfully can and freeze your fruits and vegetables.  Each class will last approximately 1 hour.

Class Options: 

Intro to Canning and Freezing (this class will cover the basics that you need to know to begin canning and freezing.  This will focus on supplies you need, where to get recipes, ideas about what items are good to start with if you want to can, what type of produce to look for, the difference between water bath and pressure cooker canning, etc.)

  • June 2 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm

  • June 4 from 9:30am to 10:30am

Berries: Jellies, Jams, Preserves, and More (this class will focus on how to make jam, preserves, or jelly from berries such as strawberries, blueberries, blackberries.   We will also cover the difference between jam, preserves, jelly.)  We will talk about different regular and sugar free pectin options and options for deciding to freeze or can your preserves.  We will also cover the basics of how to freeze whole strawberries, blueberries, and other berries for later.

  • June 9 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm

  • June 11 from 9:30am to 10:30am

Make Your Own Pickles & Relish (Refrigerator Pickles, Canning Pickles, and Making Relish:  this class will cover how to make your own refrigerator pickles, or more advances pickles.  We we will also give ideas for making and canning relish.

  • July 14 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm

  • July 16 from 9:30am to 10:30am

How to Can Lodi Applesauce (This class will talk about how to make your own applesauce from Lodi Apples along with how to can the applesauce or freeze it.  Lodi are a summer apple that are great for making your own applesauce as they are softer and cook well.)

  • July 16 from 11:00am – 12:00pm

How to Can Tomatoes (Tomatoes are great for canning.  Learn about the do’s and don’ts of canning tomatoes.  We will demonstrate how to safely can tomatoes during this class, which includes making sure they have safe acidity levels.)  

  • July 28 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm

  • July 30 from 9:30am to 10:30am

Ways to Freeze and Can Corn (Do you want to save a whole cob of corn or just the kernels?  We are going to show you some of our favorite ways to freeze corn.  Freezing fresh food now, will save you time and money later.  It will also help keep it tasting great! We will cover how to can corn.  We will even share some of our favorite recipes.)

  • August 4 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm

  • August 6 from 9:30am to 10:30am

How to Can Peaches (It is easy to can peaches, apricots, and nectarines.  We will provide a refresher on the 10 steps to canning.  We will demonstrate how to safely can peaches.  Canned peaches are great for so many recipes!)

  • August 6 from 11:00am to 12:00pm

  • August 11 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm

Park in the gravel parking lot on the west side of the road.  Please walk towards the pergola and ask a member of our staff where the class will be happening.  Please look for the signs directing you to the classroom.

At this time, masks will not be required for this event which follows the current governmental regulations.
